Adventure was a game for the Atari 2600 released in 1980. Your player roamed around a vast fantasy world populated with castles, dragons, swords and a magical chalice.
Your goal is to find the enchanted chalice. Unlike other games of the time, there was no score, no time limit, and no limit to the number of times you could die and respawn. The basic game play was simple. Traverse the maze-like world picking up items (though you can only carry one at a time) and avoiding dragons which will eat you. Kill the dragons with a sword. Unlock the castles with a key. Find the enchanted chalice hidden in one of the other castles and bring it back to yours to win.
To make the game more interesting, other aspects were added.
A special room in a castle that can only be reached if you use a "bridge" that lets you cross maze walls.
A magnet to retrieve objects that you cannot reach
A bat to steal your objects and add some randomness to the game.
Catacombs, or dark mazes, where you can only see the walls immediately around you.
Dragon hoards. Certain dragons will stay and guard certain objects rather than chasing you.
